How Much Do Google Ads Cost for B2B SaaS?

The cost of Google Ads for B2B SaaS is usually far higher than the averages you see quoted. WordStream's 2026 benchmarks put the average click at $5.42 across all industries, but the software category keywords we checked have average CPCs from $31 to $193, with a median around $52.

Generic benchmarks blend plumbers, dentists and ecommerce stores. B2B SaaS buyers search a small set of expensive category terms, convert slowly, and only some of their leads turn into pipeline. Below are real click, lead and opportunity costs, and a way to set a budget that works backward from pipeline.

What the benchmarks say

WordStream's 2026 report looked at 13,474 US search campaigns that ran between April 2025 and March 2026. Across all 23 industries:

  • Average cost per click: $5.42
  • Average cost per lead: $66.69

The closest category to B2B SaaS in that report is Business Services:

  • Average cost per click: $5.87
  • Average conversion rate: 4.85%
  • Average cost per lead: $93.69

Treat these as a floor. "Business Services" covers everything from cleaning companies to consultancies, and many of those advertisers bid on local or low-competition terms. Software companies compete for a different set of keywords.

Average Google Ads cost per click for B2B SaaS keywords

We pulled Google Ads cost data for common B2B software category searches. The average CPC is what advertisers have historically paid per click. The top-of-page bid range is what advertisers have historically bid to appear at the top of the page (roughly the 20th to 80th percentile). They measure different things, so the average CPC can sit above the high bid.

KeywordAverage CPCTop-of-page bid range
endpoint protection$192.68$11.64 to $125.00
payroll software$144.10$24.35 to $167.40
hr software$119.02$13.49 to $91.21
help desk software$107.68$31.61 to $70.08
expense management software$97.47$28.66 to $114.77
applicant tracking system$66.21$8.65 to $58.36
sales engagement platform$57.61$20.00 to $89.34
marketing automation software$47.12$16.00 to $50.00
erp software$46.41$7.98 to $45.50

project management software$40.32$9.43 to $43.42
crm software$37.13$7.14 to $51.57

cybersecurity software$31.27$6.70 to $36.61

US search, Google Ads data via DataForSEO, pulled October 2026. Category head terms only; long-tail terms usually cost less.

The median across these 14 keywords is about $52, nearly ten times WordStream's all-industry average. In categories like payroll, HR and endpoint security, $100+ clicks are normal.

You won't pay these prices on every click. Long-tail and problem searches ("crm for construction companies") are usually cheaper, and Google often charges less than your bid: you only pay what it takes to beat the ad below you. But category terms are where many B2B SaaS buyers start, so they set the baseline.

Cost per lead and cost per opportunity

Cost per lead is click cost divided by conversion rate. Here's how that plays out at B2B SaaS click prices:

Cost per click3% conversion rate5% conversion rate8% conversion rate
$20$667$400$250
$40$1,333$800$500
$60$2,000$1,200$750

Cost per lead = cost per click ÷ conversion rate.

Compare that to the $93.69 Business Services benchmark. (WordStream averages each metric on its own, so that figure isn't simply $5.87 ÷ 4.85%.) A B2B SaaS team paying $40 a click and converting at 5% is spending $800 per lead, and that's before asking how many of those leads become pipeline.

Pipeline is what counts. A demo request from a qualified buyer and a form fill from a student both count as one lead in Google Ads. The number to manage is cost per opportunity: ad spend divided by the sales opportunities it created. If one in four leads becomes an opportunity, an $800 lead means a $3,200 opportunity.

You can only see cost per opportunity if your CRM sends pipeline stages back to Google Ads. Here's how we set up offline conversions from the CRM, and how enhanced conversions recover the conversions that cookies miss.

What drives Google Ads costs up for B2B SaaS

  • Category competition. A handful of well-funded vendors bid on the same few head terms. When the deal size is large, they can afford $100 clicks, and that sets the price for everyone.
  • Low quality signals. Google weighs ad quality, including expected clickthrough rate, ad relevance and landing page experience, when it ranks ads and sets prices. A generic landing page costs you on every click.
  • Optimizing to the wrong conversion. If Google is told every form fill is a win, Smart Bidding finds the cheapest form fills, not the best buyers. You pay for volume that sales won't touch.
  • Broad match without guardrails. Broad match and Performance Max can spend into loosely related searches unless you review search terms and add negatives every month.
  • Small budgets on expensive terms. At $50 a click, a $3,000 budget buys about 60 clicks a month. That's too few conversions for Smart Bidding to learn from, so performance swings month to month.

How to set a Google Ads budget from your pipeline goal

Start from the pipeline you need, not from what the account spent last quarter. Work backward one step at a time:

  1. Opportunities needed. Say you want 10 new sales opportunities a month from search.
  2. Leads needed. Divide by your lead-to-opportunity rate. At 25%, you need 40 leads.
  3. Clicks needed. Divide by your conversion rate. At 5%, you need 800 clicks.
  4. Budget. Multiply by your expected cost per click. At $40, that's $32,000 a month.

Example only. Use your own conversion rates from the CRM, and your own CPCs from Keyword Planner or past data.

If that number is out of reach, keep the goal and change the inputs. You can target cheaper long-tail terms, raise the conversion rate with a better landing page and offer, or push lead-to-opportunity rates up by tightening who the ads reach.

Google spreads your spend across the month. On any single day a campaign can spend up to two times its average daily budget, but for most campaigns you won't be charged more than 30.4 times the daily budget in a month. To budget $32,000 a month, set the average daily budget to about $1,053.

Where B2B SaaS Google Ads budgets get wasted

Most of the waste we find in B2B SaaS accounts comes from the same few places:

  • Job seekers, students and researchers. Searches like "crm software jobs" or "what is crm software" match broad terms and never buy.
  • Competitor brand clicks with no plan. Bidding on competitor names can work, but only with ads and landing pages built for a switcher.
  • Performance Max with no exclusions. In accounts we audit, PMax without brand exclusions and audience signals often picks up branded searches you would have won anyway.
  • Reporting that stops at leads. If nobody checks which campaigns produce opportunities, budget keeps flowing to the ones that produce cheap leads.

A monthly search-term review fixes most of this. It's tedious work, which is why it gets skipped.

Total cost: ad spend plus management

Ad spend is only part of the cost. If an agency or freelancer runs the account, add their fee: most charge $1,500 to $10,000 a month flat or 10% to 30% of spend. Our PPC management pricing guide breaks that down by budget, and our list of the best Google Ads agencies for B2B compares who to hire.

At Tilt Metrics we run Google Ads for B2B SaaS teams for a flat fee, not a percentage of spend, with reporting tied to pipeline in your CRM. FAQ

How much do Google Ads cost per month for B2B SaaS?

It depends on your pipeline goal and your category's click prices. Work it out from the number of opportunities you need. In the example above, 10 opportunities a month at $40 clicks and a 5% conversion rate takes about $32,000 a month. Cheaper long-tail terms and higher conversion rates bring that down.

What is the average cost per click on Google Ads in 2026?

WordStream's 2026 benchmarks put the average at $5.42 across all industries and $5.87 for Business Services. B2B software category terms cost much more: the 14 we checked had average CPCs from $31 to $193.

What is a good cost per lead for B2B SaaS on Google Ads?

There's no single number, because lead quality varies so much. Judge it by cost per opportunity instead: divide spend by the sales opportunities it created, and compare that to your average deal size and close rate.

Are there costs on top of the click price?

Google charges for the clicks, within the budget rules you set. The extra costs come from running the account: management fees, any tools you use, and the landing pages and tracking work that make the clicks convert.

How can B2B SaaS companies lower their Google Ads costs?

Send pipeline stages from your CRM back to Google so bidding optimizes for opportunities, not form fills. Then review search terms every month, add negatives, build landing pages for each intent, and shift budget toward the terms that create pipeline.
